Hopkins Public Schools will continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regarding COVID-19 during the 2022-2023 school year.

We will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and our community. Families will be notified if we identify clusters of positive cases. Mask wearing is recommended, but not required in our buildings or on the bus. You can view our complete mitigation plan using the button below.

COVID-19 Guidelines

What if I test positive?

  • Notify your building attendance line and/or health office of your student’s positive result
  • Stay home for at least five days
    • day 0 = day symptoms begin or day of positive test if no symptoms
  • Isolate from others (wear a well-fitted mask if you must be around others in your home)

When can I return to school?

Students and staff may return to school on day six if the following criteria is met:

  • Illness symptoms have improved
    • “Improved symptoms” means that a person no longer feels ill; they can do their daily routine just as they did before they were ill, and any remaining symptoms, such as a cough or runny nose, are very mild, or infrequent
  • Fever-free without fever reducing medicine for 24 hours
  • Able to wear a well fitted mask on days 6-10

Individuals who are severely ill with COVID-19 and/or have weakened immune systems should consult with their health care provider before ending isolation.

Guidance if Exposed

Students and staff who have been exposed to COVID-19 do not need to quarantine. If you are exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19, the CDC currently recommends you take the following steps:

  • Watch for symptoms for 10 days
  • Wear a mask around others indoors for 10 days
  • Test 5 days after exposure, or sooner if you have symptoms
  • Take extra precautions for 10 days when around people more likely to get very sick

Does Hopkins have COVID tests available?

Students and staff who have symptoms or a high risk exposure (ie: live in the same household with someone who has tested positive) may pick up tests from their school health office (students or staff) or Human Resources department (staff only). Available while supplies last.

Should my child stay home?

Please keep your child home in the following situations:

  • Fever: A fever of 100 or more in the past 24 hours. Student can return once they are fever free for 24 hours without needing medicine.

  • Vomiting or Diarrhea: If your student has had these symptoms in the past 24 hours, keep them home. They can return once they are feeling well for 24 hours without needing medicine.

  • Rashes: A rash where the cause is unknown. Please see a health care provider before returning your student to school.

If your student is not feeling well enough to fully participate in learning or needs medication to feel well enough for school, please keep them home until they feel better. If your student is staying home, you can fill out an attendance form online to let the school know.
